“monitoring or measuring equipment” surveys, examination papers, questionnaires, statistical
' _, }# N* t& L: |: \reports, etc, due to the nature of their product.4 o& w8 w2 H6 p+ W3 I
These types of “equipment” should be controlled and validated accordingly to ensure2 x6 p8 E' {7 k( U& q/ @& m! k
that they provide consistent means of monitoring and measurement of the processes,5 T: a" q0 C+ O5 N; ~* Q1 g0 c
product/service and customer satisfaction.
1 v: @0 U# T: i y. [* @% |6 kIt is appropriate to address these types of “equipment” whilst auditing conformance with
6 c% t( P. H# }9 n) i( nclause 8.2 “Monitoring and Measurement”. If an organization can demonstrate appropriate
0 X6 u$ X5 N1 _# M2 Vcontrols of such “equipment” under this clause, an auditor needs to realize that not c- j& F) w7 x. c$ ]1 r) l
all the requirements related to Clause 7.6 may be applicable for such “equipment”.5 Y) I3 u! p1 x& b u3 Y& F
The auditor needs to understand how the organization performs process control and the* Q8 w$ H& f# f, v5 P: L
impact that the information, obtained from using these types of “equipment”, has on this* w% M T- B2 K" F

When the impact is relevant, auditors should evaluate issues such as:8 U" X) i! A1 ]2 d% J3 d: x. e. Z
- How the organization validates that “the monitoring and measuring equipment” is
! [! U! J& J7 \5 q% k* N; r8 Zconsistent with the monitoring and measurement requirements.' c5 y; k1 c7 |7 _$ t( }! H7 }$ \1 f
- How the organization assures the information validity and the consistency of the3 h8 x& `( p ?- ?1 |' t0 m
results.

% k1 c. V# w, ^! ^7 c' `equipment” n, ~$ e5 U0 `: f$ J% D: w0 G
From the description above, the organization should be able to decide whether or not all0 B/ ]( L1 C3 o W. D" g9 N
or part of the requirements of clause 7.6 may be excluded. It is stressed that just because" O3 d. ?2 n0 R- ?
an organization does not have measuring equipment that needs to be calibrated
0 e, B; U1 q/ @/ Adoes not mean that it can automatically exclude compliance with the whole of clause
0 d9 W R T1 @% j% z/ w" H7.6; to do so would require that it also does not do any monitoring or measurement (see particularly the first two paragraphs of clause 7.6) and that it does not use any monitoring
